From animatic to final render: the Uky and Lola pipeline
How an early technical decision — a hybrid 2D/3D pipeline — shaped the entire visual identity of the film.
When an animated feature is born in a country without a large industry, every technical decision carries double weight. For Uky and Lola, from the animatic onward we committed to a hybrid pipeline: stylized 2D characters on top of 3D environments lit with physical rendering.
Why the hybrid
2D lets us preserve the expressiveness of the line — essential to convey the emotion of child protagonists — without burning animation hours on frames the viewer won't focus on. 3D gives us spatial consistency: we can move the camera through Patagonian landscapes without losing coherence.
What comes next
The production stage is underway. Post production — final edit, sound design, score, color and mastering — is where we are seeking sponsorship to close the film at the technical level the universe deserves.
